Beemoid Species Reference [Open Species!] by Aevix Beemoid Species Reference [Open Species!] by Aevix
:iconbeemoid-hive:
Beemoid group!

Meet my latest creation, the Beemoid- Cute little fluffy buggins!

This is an open species, meaning you're completely free to make your own! They do come with some rules, however.
:bulletgreen: You must follow the species reference!
:bulletgreen: You must submit your design to Beemoid-HIVE for design approval, or note Aevix
:bulletgreen: Preferably, submit your beemoid and its artworks to the beemoid group Beemoid-HIVE
:bulletgreen: You may not make beemoids to sell or otherwise for monetary gain.
:bulletgreen: You must credit Aevix as the creator of the species

Some additional information not listed on the reference:
Trait styles not listed may be used, as long as they generally fit the given information
Beemoid markings may be smooth, hard, gradated, iridescent, or glowing!
Beemoid colors are never neon in a sense that they are bright, saturated color stacked on bright, saturated color
Marking patterns may be natural, geometric, unnatural, whatever!
Although base coats are typically neutral toned, there are always exceptions! Pastels and dark pastels are generally accepted.

Beemoids do not have eyelids for any of their eyes. (they can sort of 'squish' their eyes to convey emotions, however)
Beemoids cannot grow spikes, horns, feathers, gems, etc. (they can only gave traits variations as shown on the reference)
  Beemoids have yellowish-green blood
Their skeletal structure reflects that of humanoids, not insects. They do have a skin-like exoskeleton, which hardens at their feet into chitinous scales.

Beemoids can talk, but their speech is very parrot-like. They mostly imitate words they hear the most, but can generally understand language.
Beemoid society reflects that of a beehive, with many worker individuals, soldier individuals, drones, nursery workers, etc.  There is always one queen per hive.
Queen beemoids are larger in size than the rest of the colony, and are usually pampered. Trait-wise, they tend to be fluffier, but not much else distinguishes them.
Domestic beemoids like to serve their owner and are generally playful little beings.
  Beemoids can produce honey.
Despite having delicate wings, beemoids can indeed fly!

Beemoid Size Chart by Aevix Beemoid Information: Social ClassAccessory information to the Beemoid Species Reference
Beemoid Social Classes: (click to jump to a class)
• Queen
• Soldier
• Worker
• Drone
• Solitary
• Domestic
Beemoids have distinct social classes which are determined at birth and stay with an individual for its entire life. Each class maintains the structure, order, and integrity of the entire hive by its unique and defining characteristics.
At the forefront, all members of the hive live to serve its queen. Unlike a beehive or an ant's nest, hive members aren't strictly the queen's daughters (although a large portion of them are!). Hives willingly accept new members- some hives even merging with another should their queen die. This creates a genetically diver

Can you make one with a scorpion tail?..also I plan on making a domestic worker that will eventually be a 'Queen' and a male solitary that is scarred after stealing a lot of royal jelly..he has a problem, I know.

Unfotunately, scorpion tails fall under 'insectoid', so they wouldn't be allowed. (I know they're arachnids, but I umbrella them under insectoid)
That sounds like an interesting couple of beemoids you've got planned though! X) I haven't even thought of what would happen if a male ate royal jelly! Neat concept c:

First off, darn it I guess I'll just use lizard tail. Secondly, I'll make sure to link a character bio for them when they're done.

ok so here is a question: Do all beemoids have 2 arms? Or can they vary in number (normal insects have a lot of legs so thats why i ask)
Also how exactly do they make honey?

:iconaevix:
Aevix Featured By Owner Dec 17, 2016  Hobbyist Digital Artist
Yep, they all have two arms. The only limbs with number variation are the wings (either 2 or 4)
They make honey not too differently from honey bees. Nectar-sucking beemoids forage and gather nectar from flowers (since they're fantasy creatures, I imagine the world they live in contains pretty large flowers) and store it in their crop or honey stomach. When they return to the hive, they transfer their goods to processor workers who then turn that into honey by repeated regurgitation into honey cells and fanning it with their wings. Ta-da! Honey
Alternatively, they might just be bee keepers XD

No idea why but i really like the bee keeper idea XD
How intelligent are they anyway? Human level? Or more like goblins?

I'd say more like goblins. Their society and behavior is ruled primarily by pheromone and instinct rather than rational thought. However, they are intelligent enough to have a primitive language, and are able to build and use tools and weapons.
The kinds of beemoids that do not live in hives, solitary beemoids, reflect more of a nomad/tribal/early human type of intellect and skill set.
Then there's domesticated beemoids, which are usually more or less pets, but they're pretty smart I'd think. Hard to judge those ones.

A bit of text which explains each class of beemoid, might help you understand their intellect X)

Ooooo, I wanna make one SOOO bad! Please, tell me there is a lineart I can use somewhere! Unfortunately, I can't draw one myself as I can barely draw a stick figure, but I am a digital colorist-in-training.

Hey, I know you said that you don't have any linearts available for people to use, so I asked around and got two made for you to use for your species. ^^ I hope these are alright as they're not quite as detailed as yours, of course.

Unfortunately, these are directly traced from my beemoid size chart (Beemoid Size Chart) :c
Out of respect, I would appreciate if these linearts were not used (and I will kindly ask the artist to remove these images)

You're oh so very welcome~
I have a question- you mentioned that the beemoids have a "combination of mouthparts". Does that mean they can have a combination of say, the secondary mandibles and the probosois? Or can they only have one of the options?
Reply
:iconaevix:
Aevix Featured By Owner Aug 7, 2016  Hobbyist Digital Artist
Yep, you can one, two, or even all three mouthpart variants on a single beemoid X) I like the idea of secondary mandible + proboscis myself!

I might be missing this information, but are we allowed to create any of the social classes? (I just have this cute little idea in my head about a soldier that loses it's queen and ends up making a little domestic mini into it's new one XD)
